Regrets by Eddy Marshall

“Regrets” by Eddy Marshall, the second release from Eddy Marshall in 2018, is an inspired homage to Paul Simon. From the beginning drum intro and organ swells to the first lines:

Regret’s a friend I never sought before
He overstays his welcome, muddies up my floor

Eddy Marshall’s songs definitely draw from a wide variety of influences. In any given song, you can hear the influences of Ray Charles or Paul Simon, to the more modern influence of Norah Jones or BOY. But their signature sound lies somewhere happily in the middle of Jazz, Folk, and Pop.

In this song he personifies Regret.

He waltzed and danced for everyone to see
In poorly altered stories and buried memories

We all have some regrets, and it’s so easy to get caught up overthinking and over analyzing every aspect of our lives, but by the end of this song, you feel that everything will be okay.

It’s been this way before, but I’m not to blame
I’ll play the game, I’ll play the game but I’m not to blame.

And I’m not to blame.
