been waiting so long by Sasha Smith

Indie-alternative artist Sasha Smith released his third single from his #pinkfridays vol.II singles. “been waiting so long” released on January 29th and sees Smith in a raw expression of loneliness and invisibility.

“been waiting so long” starts out with a nice fingerpicked acoustic guitar that remains through the verse. The guitar is warm and intimate and fitting for the longing feeling Smith is trying to express in his first verse.

I [wanted to] explore the idea of waiting so long you start to forget the reason why you’re even trying. The feeling that so much time has past that the spark you once felt is now gone most days.

The song leaps in a sudden explosion of intensity and emotion as Smith propels us into the chorus. Citing Chris Cornell as the inspiration for the chorus, Smith says, “the chorus was begging to go even higher and stronger in intensity than the verses, so I took a page from Chris Cornell’s book and just went for it.”

“been waiting so long” explores the insecurities and emotions you would endure as an indie artist, but it’s accessible beyond the “struggling artist” mindset. I think we can all relate to what Sasha Smith is trying to express, that there are moments in all our lives where we feel lost or voiceless. Where we lose sight of what makes us truly happy to begin with; and we need a reminder to go find it.

You can find Sasha Smith on his aesthetically appealing website, Instagram, Spotify, YouTube, or on Bandcamp.
