This World Wasn’t Meant For Me by Ben Harrison

Ben Harrison has just released a song that makes me feel the warmth of a fire on a cold night. ‘This World Wasn’t Meant For Me’ is a banjo fueled sing-a-long that makes me dream of camping out on the cold frontier under the full moon and the stars.

‘This World’ kicks off the album Bluey, Harrison’s first project under his own name. Born and raised in Australia, Ben Harrison has worked with some of the music industries best, including Julia Stone, Joe Camilleri, Dave Douglas, Lucky Oceans and many more. His first release under his own name, Bluey has encapsulated many of his influences, from the high lonesome sound of old-time, to more contemporary iterations of bluegrass and beyond.

There’s something so magical about bluegrass songs. They’re so beautifully simplistic. ‘This World’ has a banjo laying down the groove all alone, add on a couple voices for those sweet harmonies and you’ve got yourself a great song. The lyrics are a typical blues structure where you repeat the refrain line the first two lines and then change it for the third, before repeating the first line again at the end. They’re simple and they work.

Ben Harrison was able to stop my endless scrolling and hold me with only a banjo and some vocal harmonies. In a world with diminishing attention spans, I’d say that is a feat within itself. Go out and buy Bluey by Ben Harrison today!
