See Me Again by JEMS

“See Me Again” is enchanting. The Los Angeles based trio, JEMS, is made up of Singer-Songwriters Emily Colombier, Jessica Rotter and Sarah Margaret Huff, and their newest single, “See Me Again” is a slow and beautiful ballad.

There’s something truly magical about vocal harmonies. Experienced in a live performance you can be moved to tears, Lula Wiles come to mind immediately when I imagine beautiful harmonies, JEMS is another. “See Me Again” is so stripped down and bare, it’s as close to intimate as a song can make you feel. It’s as though they’re singing to me alone in an empty room, and I love every moment.

The lyrics are powerful and full of imagery. “You and I are made of light / it’s bottled and buried and doesn’t burn so bright / but I see it in you / I see it in you.” The only other instrument, a soft and clean guitar slowly playing arpeggios under the vocal performances, which truly are remarkable.

However, the chorus is really where this song shines brightest. “Let the skies part / Let me pour out my heart / It’s alright if it runs right through your hands / This world will not last / So I might as well ask / If you’d like to ever see me again / See me again.”

I can’t get enough of the beauty in those words, the melody, and the harmony with which they are sung. Listen to JEMS, they are going to be making waves soon.
