Hindenburg by Nising

Hindenburg, the infamous airship that burst into flame flying over New Jersey. A short-lived fantasy of futuristic wonder that all but ended the of airships. The antithesis to that disaster is Hindenburg by Nising, an indie folk artist from Norway.

Clocking in at one minute and eighteen seconds; the song is brief but beautiful. The music and lyrics are in perfect prosody.

oh, Hindenburg, Hindenburg
I’ll follow you wherever you go,
I’ll follow you down
everybody’s always going somewhere
even mountains, with or without a care
so Hindenburg, Hindenburg,
I’ll follow you down

I have no idea if the song is in reference to the German airship, if Nising dreamt of being on the airship as it was careening toward the earth in the most spectacular disaster of the modern era, but I find this song poetic and reminiscent of For Emma, Forever by Bon Iver. If you enjoy that (how could you not?), listen to the full album, Slumbersongs by Nising.

Nising smears red pain under his right eye.

Here’s what Nising wrote of the album:

A song cycle written and recorded over a long period of time, in a boat house on the west coast of Norway, and in various outdoor locations. Twelve songs exploring border areas between sleep and wakefulness, dream and reality, connectedness and isolation, depression and exuberance.
