EDITOR NOTE: About the Blog

After more than a year of writing this blog, I thought it would be time to inform you of what I have been doing – this blog is my way of discovering new music.

With all the noise in the world, and with the top streaming services having – frankly inadequate – discovery options, I wanted to find REAL music. Not to diminish some of the amazing labels and artists signed to those labels, but I wanted to find new music by artists without a large following and showcase it in the best way I knew how.

So, with this blog, I intend to find a great song and share it. It is that simple. It doesn’t matter if it is DIY or signed by Warner Music Group. These songs must fit two criteria: 1. They must have less than one million plays on Spotify, and 2. The artist released the song in the current year.

Going through the Discovery Platform on Spotify, I found it recycling the same songs. I wanted more than that; I wanted to help boost the musicians – like me – who only have a handful of followers who don’t have their song on a mainstream playlist. So every Monday, I go to Bandcamp and search through their discovery platform and find a song that grabs me. Sometimes I’m lucky, and often it takes me a few hours to find one. But when I do, it makes it that much nicer.

On rare occasions – read Coldplay, Bon Iver, The National, etc. – I will write about big-name bands or songs that reach the Billboard Top 100 songs, but I can promise that those will be the exception.

There are so many great songs out there; it just takes a little searching.
