Brotherhood by Outsider

“Brotherhood” caught my attention immediately, (I think it’s those 80s synthesizers). I thought I was listening to an unreleased U2 track. Lucky for me, I stumbled onto Outsider, an alternative rock artist from County Tipperary, Ireland.

Outsider frontman Seán Corcoran stands on a pebble beach in during sunset.

“Brotherhood” begins with those awesome synthesizer sounds and loads of wet reverb. When frontman Seán Corcoran comes into sing the first verse, I’m blown away. This sounds like it would be my new favorite song by The National. Instead, I have a brand new artist to add to my ever-growing collection of incredible songs.

Outsider performs “Brotherhood” masterfully. A song that drives and drives and drives. Building up pace continuously throughout the three minutes. And while the driving rhythm and huge vocals are incredible, I’m hung up on two amazing lines in the first verse, “I am a stranger in your land/ I am a stranger to your love.” It’s gold. I love it.

From Outsider’s own words, “‘Brotherhood’ explores the impact of friendships upon men’s mental health: such connections are vital, but machismo and drinking culture aren’t conducive to addressing the issues at hand.”

Find Outsider on his instagram, facebook, youtube, and bandcamp.
