Black Hills by Logan Bowden

Black Hills is an intimate acoustic folk song by Logan Bowden, an PNW based indie artist. This song grabbed my attention immediately with its lo-fi production quality. It’s truly a beautiful song. Maybe I have a soft spot for songs in 3/4 time, but the meter and the production quality really put me in the room with Logan and I can imagine the room like I was there while he was recording.

Black Hills is reminiscent of Skinny Love by Bon Iver. It has some layered vocals, a simple descending guitar line, a banjo, and wonderful lyrics. It’s such a laid back song. One that you can listen to over and over again, never growing tired. It’s the type of song that makes me jealous that I wasn’t the one to write it.

Stones, stones, stones
Are Studded for you
In the black hills

Lyrics from “Black Hills” written by Logan Bowden

It’s the first song off the album Family, and what follows are an array of astonishing tunes, showcasing Logan’s strength as both a songwriter and a producer.
