Look Closer by Someday June

Someday June Cover

Today’s song is “Look Closer” by Someday June, an Indie Folk duo from Melbourne, Australia. “Look Closer” is extremely atmospheric, it’s gorgeous. The synth swells in the background while the guitar plays some beautifully delayed chords, some deep bass lays down the low end, the drums keep the beat going, and wistful voice enters.

Go outside
The feeling rises
Nowhere to hide
I’ve become
A shadow’s shadow
Just to survive

“Look Closer” would lose so much of the emotion without that swelling synthesizer in the background; it really adds so much feeling to this track. The production is killer. The vocal harmonies are tasteful and really add to the feel behind the track. But the best element of the entire song, for me, is the guitar. The tone in the guitar is a tone people should strive to achieve. But it’s when the guitar is accompanied with all of the other instruments that it really becomes something otherwordly.

Look at all the time I’m wasting, waiting for the start
Now look at everything I’m making, making in the dark
Look closer, just look closer (waiting in the dark)
Look closer, just look closer (waiting in the dark)

All in all, “Look Closer” is an especially gloomy song that I could honestly listen to for hours on end. If I was running Rainy Mood while listening to this song, my life would be perfect, if only for four minutes.

Love it.
