Layers of Love by Glorio

This is a guest post by Eddy Marshall.

A syncopated guitar groove, organ stabs, horn hits, a toe tapping drum beat, and we are into Layers of Love.

Tom Glorio (stage name Glorio) is a Singer-Songwriter in New York City. He began the year with a debut single titled 15 Years. In February, the first song Glorio wrote as a New York resident came to fruition with the release of Layers of Love.

Instrumentally, the song lives up to its name. Every listen unveils a new level of depth that always serves to strengthen the tune.  The vocal harmonies peppered throughout the song bolster Tom’s honest voice. The hand-claps in the interlude sneak in, play the part, and slip under the mix until the outro. The lead guitar riff seamlessly shifts from the interlude to the second chorus as if it was written into each section simultaneously. Finally, the bridge transposition from E major to B major paired with the falsetto in the vocals lifts the song up before one last double chorus.

Furthermore, the lyrics of Layers of Love are sung with refreshing open vowels. They mention a lost love by name, adding verisimilitude to the story of “Caroline.” The second verse recounts an endlessly relatable tale of stumbling upon pent up feelings in an unsuspecting place, “I thought I saw her in line at Whole Foods…My face flushed… She brushed her hair and I gazed in unfamiliar eyes.”

The chorus recounts the musings of a confused man in search of his own ability to love. He says, “I think that I left my heart with Caroline,” as if he isn’t even completely sure, but it is the best guess that his jumbled feelings are willing to make.

This is a fantastic sophomore release that provides a window into the talent of the artist. Layers of Love can be found alongside other releases by Tom Glorio on his website. You can also find him on facebook, twitter, youtube, and instagram.
