Weren’t Looking For by Leaving Lennox

Leaving Lennox are back again with a banger! “Weren’t Looking For” is a great song complete with solid lyrics, gorgeous harmonies, top-of-the-line production, and a chorus you’ll be singing for weeks.

I asked the band a couple of questions. What is the story behind the lyrics? What was their process like when writing it? Here’s what they had to say:

The story behind our new single “Weren’t Looking For” embodies the quote “Sometimes you find what you’re looking for when you’re not looking at all.” It is written from both perspectives of a relationship, portraying a lyrical love story between two people, who have their differences and flaws, but ultimately fit together.

This song actually started with the riff, which isn’t how we usually write. We would typically start with a chord progression, vocal melody or lyric. The lyric came out as a story, describing the protagonists personalities and traits, through the verse and moving to the story of how the two met so unexpectedly in the choruses. The word play on “Weren’t looking for”, definitely encompasses the song and how sometimes the best relationships can come when you’re not searching for them.

In November, the pair will be playing their new release at several prestigious Nashville venues, including the “Mockingbird Theater”, alongside Nashville’s own, “The Beasley Brothers”, Nashville’s Rocketown & at the 2019 International Frank Brown Songwriting Festival, where they are featured songwriters.

The couple released their debut single “Old Love”, in July and have plans to continue releasing singles, throughout the remainder or 2019 and 2020. The pair have plans to tour the new music around Nashville and at music & songwriting festivals throughout Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Chicago and Florida. As well as being recently announced as semi finalists for the UK songwriting competition, for their newest single “Old Love”, Leaving Lennox were also nominated for three awards in the 2019 Josie Music Awards.
