Old Love by Leaving Lennox

“Old Love” is the newest single by Australian natives Leaving Lennox. I got the chance to ask Mick and Lauren a couple of questions on what the song means to them, and why they decided on a recent name change (they were formerly known as Lennox Lust).

Here is what they had to say:

“’Old Love’ is a song about a first love, that you thought would last a lifetime. We wrote the lyrics with the intention of being super relatable to anyone who has felt their first love has slipped through their fingers and they might have lost touch with them throughout the years. The song draws inspiration from relationships around us, where we were able to observe both sides of a failed relationship and the repercussions it has on different people. This really helped us write the song as duet and gain knowledge into both sides of the relationship, where the first verse is sung from our perspective and the second verse is sung by the other. The lyrics use a bunch of symbolism and imagery, including “Couch for two”, “drink in hand”, reference to a front porch, fireplace & a lounge room, to set the tone of the song.”

“Originally, the song was written in one night, but we made some final adjustments to the lyrics in the studio- where we decided to add a second perspective and change verse two. We also produced the song as we went, starting with layering piano, acoustic guitar, bass and electric guitar. Finally, the track was sent to Aaron Sterling, who laid down the drum tracks. We are stoked with how the production turned out and feel like it really highlights the songs lyrical and melodic content.”

On the name change:

“Just a few months ago, after our big move to Nashville TN, we decided to change our name from ‘Lennox Lust’ to ‘Leaving Lennox’. The word ‘Lennox’, has meant a lot to us ever since we became a couple and ‘Lennox St. Park’ was across the road from our first apartment together. Keeping the alliteration of LL, we decided that ‘Leaving Lennox’ was a perfect fit for our new chapter and symbolized how far we had come since meeting back at college in our teenage years. We are so pleased with all we have accomplished since then and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

“Old Love” is a great song. It has an amazing mix of modern pop elements, Nashville twang, incredible production, great vocal harmonies, and even better lyrics. Leaving Lennox are up for three Josie Music Awards, and have some festivals and shows coming up around Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama, and Florida.
