Hey I’m In Town by Eddy Marshall

Okay, I’m biased because Eddy is one of my favorite people on the planet. But his final single of the year, “Hey I’m In Town” is incredible. The entire song is like a steaming mug.Hey I'm In Town single by Eddy Marshall cover image by Erica Marksteiner From the first breath until the last line, I’m gripped by Eddy’s fantastic lyrics, his guitar playing, his use of the word “deigned”.

“Hey I’m In Town” is as honest a song as they come, and it’s that candidness that really drives home the emotion. Eddy is a master of writing about specific moments. It’s true, I’ve watched him work, and this song is a perfect moment, a portrait in dialogue. It features the quintessence of Eddy’s lyrical simplicity from the very first verse, “Hey I’m in town with a little bit of time, just checking in as I get off my flight.” He backs these lyrics with unobtrusive instrumentals.

Eddy played his first shows at the Radio Bean in Burlington Vermont. He blistered his fingers in the practice rooms at Berklee College of Music where he majored in music education. As college rolled to a close he put together a seven-piece band and released his first self-titled EP. They toured up and down the east coast and even ventured into the Midwest a few times. In 2015 Eddy made the move to New York City where he is now based and plays in a duo or trio form. Check out their website to see where they are playing next: eddymarshallmusic.com
